Open file dialog shortcuts

File this one under nifty tricks. When you select open file from SQL Server Management Studio you get a familiar dialog box with three shortcuts down the left hand side. Desktop, My Projects & My Computer.

You can add your own short cuts to this menu. Open Regedit and navigate to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Shell\Open Find\Places\UserDefinedPlaces’. Add a new key, call it Place1, Place2 etc.. Add two string values to the key. Call one ‘Name’ and give it the name of the shortcut (in my case Toolbox). The second one is called path, and is the filepath to the folder of your choice:
